Middle School Opportunities 2010
The following courses are offered to Middle School students to help them improve their skills. These courses are designed primarily for students entering 9th grade with the idea of combining skill development with increased appreciation for learning.

Algebra I - Development of Skills & Concepts

Description:

Skills and concepts of Algebra I for students who are going to be ninth graders in the fall. This three-week course will sharpen your skills and further prepare you for algebra in the high school.

Reading Comprehension Strategies

Description:

Students will read fiction and nonfiction selections with an emphasis on picking out main ideas, themes, and supporting details. Students will sharpen their critical reading ability by making inferences and separating fact from opinion. They will write summaries, outlines, and reading webs. Students will do independent reading of books of their choice and present “book shares” to the class. The most important goal of this class is to find pleasure and success in reading and related activities.

Description:

Students will engage in a variety of language arts activities such as journal writing, personal narratives, creative writing, dictionary skills and work to increase vocabulary. A thesaurus to find a variety of word choices. We will play games that teach parts of speech and will learn how to analyze figurative language. The most important goal of this class is to have fun with language and experience success with language arts activities.
