Description:

Do you sometimes feel that your ideas are better than your papers? If so, spend time this summer improving your academic writing - in all subjects.

This course is for incoming 9th grade thru 12th grade students. It is designed to help students define a clear thesis and organize evidence to support it. You will practice structuring logical paragraphs, draw convincing connections between them, and building to a strong, emphatic conclusion. And you will learn to avoid errors in usage and punctuation that can detract from your good arguments.

This three-week course is designed for juniors who have successfully completed 513/613 math and wish to take calculus their senior year. There are a few prerequisite topics which are necessary before calculus. This course will provide the necessary exposure to these topics.

Description:

The Multimedia Workshop course offers students an opportunity to immerse into exciting computer lessons with premium programs of the Adobe Suite. We offer two 2-week courses and you may choose one 2-week course or even sign up for both sessions.

This course will teach you how to master Flash to create your own animations as well as web pages! Also you will have the chance to produce videos using our premier equipment, mini DV cameras. Of course this course also offers lessons in Photoshop for professional digital imaging. Students will learn the same tricks editors use to enhance celebrities and posters to make their own stunning visual piece.

In addition, those students who already have had experience with Adobe Flash, iMovie and Final Cut, will be able to work on their own independent projects. However, they may also choose to work in groups! They will learn the important skills of critiquing and meticulous refinement.

Description:


This four-week course investigates the amazing biology and ecology of marine organisms and their environment. This course stresses experiential, hands-on learning in both the classroom, lab and field (4 full-day field trips)

• Physical, chemical and biological oceanographic analysis of Massachusetts Bay aboard a UMASS research vessel.

• Exploration and analysis of the rocky inter-tidal ecosystem in Nahant, Massachusetts.

• Shorebird ecology and soft sediment habitat assessment at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Sandy Point Reservation, Plum Island, MA.

• Salt Marsh Ecology and Restoration at Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Falmouth, MA.
